How to Choose a Med Spa Marketing Agency
A calm, honest guide to choosing a med spa marketing agency in Toronto and the GTA: what to look for, what to ask and the red flags to avoid.
If you own a med spa in Toronto or anywhere in the GTA, you have probably been contacted by a marketing agency this month. Maybe more than one. They promise more leads, more bookings and more reviews. Some of them are wonderful. Some of them have never set foot in a treatment room and could not tell you the difference between a filler consultation and a facial.
Choosing a med spa marketing agency is a big decision. You are trusting someone with your reputation, your brand and a meaningful part of your budget. This guide walks you through how to choose well, in plain language, so you can make the decision with confidence instead of guesswork.
Why a med spa needs a different kind of marketing
A med spa is not a restaurant, a gym or a plumbing company. Your clients are making personal decisions about their face, their skin and their body. They want to feel safe. They want to feel understood. Many of them will look at your website several times, read reviews late at night and follow you on Instagram for weeks before they ever book.
That means your marketing has to do a few things that general marketing often misses:
- Build trust before the first visit. Clients want to see your team, your space, your credentials and real results.
- Explain treatments gently. Most people do not know the difference between microneedling and RF microneedling. Good marketing teaches without overwhelming.
- Make booking feel easy. If a client has to message you on Instagram to ask about price or availability, many of them simply will not.
- Respect the rules. In Canada, there are real limits on how prescription treatments can be advertised. An agency that does not know this can put you at risk.
- Speak to the right person. Most of your clients are women who care about how an experience feels, not just what it costs.
A good med spa marketing agency understands all of this before your first meeting. You should not have to teach them your industry.
Step 1: Get clear on what you actually want
Before you talk to any agency, take ten quiet minutes and write down what you want to change. Not "more marketing." Something you could point at.
Here are some examples we hear from owners:
- "I want my calendar full on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, not just weekends."
- "I want more laser packages, not just one-off appointments."
- "I want clients to book online instead of messaging me at 11 p.m."
- "I want to show up on Google when someone in Vaughan searches for Botox near me."
- "I want a website I am proud to send people to."
- "I am opening a second location and need people to know about it."
When your goal is clear, it becomes much easier to judge whether an agency is listening. A great agency will ask about your goals before they talk about their services. If someone jumps straight to a package without asking what you want, that tells you something.
Step 2: Look for real beauty and aesthetics experience
This is the single most important filter. Ask every agency to show you work they have done for med spas, aesthetic clinics, injectors, estheticians, lash studios or day spas. Then look closely.
- Visit the live websites. Do they feel calm and premium? Can you find the booking button in a few seconds on your phone?
- Look at treatment pages. Are they written for clients, in warm and simple language? Or are they a wall of jargon?
- Search for the business on Google. Does it show up for its city and main treatments?
- Ask what the agency actually did. Design only? Website and SEO? Ads? It matters.
At Elara Digital, for example, we designed and built the website for Balanced Beauty Med Spa in Vaughan and continue to run their local SEO. We also designed the website for Aligned Aesthetic Studio. You can visit both and judge for yourself. Any agency you are considering should be just as open about their work.
Be careful with portfolios full of mockups or businesses you cannot find online. Real work lives on the internet, and you should be able to see it.
Step 3: Understand what is included, in writing
One of the most common frustrations we hear is "I thought that was included." A website quote that does not include booking setup. An SEO plan that does not include treatment pages. An ad budget that does not include the cost of the ads themselves.
Ask every agency for a written list of exactly what you get. For a website, that list should cover things like:
- How many pages, and which ones
- Whether they write the words or you do
- Whether photos are included or sourced
- How the site will work alongside your current booking system
- Whether basic Google setup is included, such as page titles, descriptions and your Google Business Profile connection
- How long launch takes
- What support looks like after launch
- Who owns the website and domain at the end
For ongoing marketing such as SEO or ads, you want to know:
- What happens every month
- What reporting you will receive and how often
- Whether ad spend is included or separate
- How long the commitment is, and how to leave
We believe pricing should be clear and public. Our website packages are listed openly on our pricing section: Launch at $5,000, Grow at $9,500 and Dominate at $15,000 CAD, with everything included in the package. You do not have to agree with our prices, but you should expect the same clarity from anyone you hire.
Step 4: Ask how they will help you get found locally
For most GTA med spas, the majority of new clients live or work nearby. That means local search is everything. When someone types "lip filler Oakville" or "HydraFacial near me" into Google, you want to be one of the first studios they see.
Ask any agency how they approach local search. A thoughtful answer will usually include:
- Your Google Business Profile. Categories, services, photos, posts and reviews.
- Treatment pages. A dedicated page for each of your key treatments, written for clients.
- Location signals. Clear mention of your city, neighbourhood and nearby areas, without stuffing keywords.
- Reviews. A simple, gentle way to ask happy clients for reviews.
- Speed and mobile ease. Google rewards sites that load quickly and work well on phones.
If you want a deeper explanation, our complete guide to med spa SEO walks through each of these in more detail.
A red flag is an agency that promises "page one in 30 days" or guarantees specific rankings. Nobody controls Google. Good agencies talk about steady progress and the work that earns it.
Step 5: Listen for how they talk about your clients
Pay attention to the language an agency uses. Do they talk about "leads" and "conversions" all day, or do they talk about your clients as people?
Your marketing will sound like the agency that writes it. If they speak in cold, technical terms in your meeting, that tone will end up on your website and in your ads. If they speak warmly about the experience of walking into your studio, the confidence a client feels after a treatment and the trust you have built, that will come through too.
The best med spa marketing feels like an invitation, not a sales pitch.
Step 6: Check how they handle advertising rules
In Canada, prescription drugs like neurotoxins have strict limits on how they can be advertised to the public. Medical treatments may also be subject to rules from your regulatory college. Platforms like Google and Meta add their own policies on top.
You do not need your agency to be a lawyer. But you do want them to:
- Know that these rules exist
- Avoid making medical promises or guaranteeing results
- Focus on consultations, experience and expertise rather than drug brand names
- Encourage you to confirm anything sensitive with your regulator or advisor
If an agency suggests running ads with brand-name drug offers and big discounts without blinking, be cautious. We cover this in more detail in our guide to Google Ads for med spas.
Step 7: Ask about the getting-started process
A surprising number of owners tell us the hardest part of working with past agencies was the start. Endless forms. Long meetings. Being asked to write all the content themselves while running a full calendar.
Ask each agency to describe, step by step, what the first few weeks look like. A good answer sounds something like:
- A short call to understand your studio, your goals and your favourite treatments.
- They gather what they need with as little work for you as possible.
- They write the words, choose or plan the photos and design the pages.
- You review a preview and share feedback.
- They launch and show you how everything works.
Your time is precious. The right agency protects it.
Step 8: Compare the long-term picture, not just the price
It is tempting to choose the lowest quote. Sometimes that works out. Often it does not, because the low quote leaves out things you will need later: proper treatment pages, booking connections, SEO foundations or ongoing care.
Instead of comparing price alone, compare:
- What you get on day one
- What you will still need to buy later
- How easy it will be to grow (new treatments, new locations, an online shop)
- Whether you own your website and can leave if you need to
A website is something your clients will see every week for years. It is worth getting right.
Red flags to watch for
Here is a quick list of warning signs we would gently encourage you to take seriously:
- No real beauty or aesthetics work to show.
- Guaranteed rankings or guaranteed numbers of leads.
- Prices that change dramatically once you ask questions.
- Long contracts with no clear way to leave.
- They own your website or domain, not you.
- They want you to write all the content yourself.
- They cannot explain what they will do each month.
- Ads that make medical promises or push brand-name drug discounts.
- No mention of your booking software.
None of these automatically mean an agency is bad. But each one is worth a direct question.
Green flags that signal a great fit
And here is what a great med spa marketing agency usually looks like:
- They have live, visible work in beauty and aesthetics.
- They ask about your goals before pitching services.
- Their prices are clear and written down.
- They understand your booking system.
- They write in a warm, client-friendly voice.
- They respect Canadian advertising rules.
- They make the start easy for you.
- You own everything at the end.
- You feel calm and understood after talking to them.
That last one matters more than people think. If a conversation with an agency leaves you feeling confused or pressured, it is very likely that working with them will feel the same way.
Questions to bring to your first call
Print these out or keep them on your phone:
- What med spa or beauty studio work can you show me that is live today?
- What exactly is included in your proposal, in writing?
- Who writes the words on my website?
- How will you connect my booking software?
- How will you help me show up on Google Maps in my city?
- What happens after launch, and what does it cost?
- How do you handle advertising rules for medical treatments?
- How long until launch, and what do you need from me?
- Who owns the website and domain?
- How do I leave if it is not working?

Should you choose a specialist or a general agency?
General agencies can do great work, especially if they have a talented team. But a specialist brings something a generalist usually cannot: they have already solved the problems you are facing for studios just like yours.
They know which treatments clients search for most. They know how a consultation-based business differs from a walk-in business. They know how to write about injectables carefully. They know how your booking software works. And they know how to make a website feel like your studio feels when someone walks through the door.
That is why we built Elara Digital as a dedicated agency for med spas and beauty studios in Toronto and the GTA. Everything we do is shaped around this one kind of business.
A simple way to start
If you are not ready for a big decision, that is completely fine. Start small. Ask for a free review of your current website. A good agency should be able to tell you, in a few minutes, what is working, what is getting in the way of bookings and what they would change first.
At Elara, we record a short, free video walkthrough of your current site with honest ideas, no pressure attached. You can request one from our homepage. You can also explore our med spa website design service or see the areas we serve across the GTA.
Whoever you choose, choose someone who understands your clients, respects your time and makes you feel proud of how your studio shows up online. Your business deserves nothing less.
